NEW DELHI, Sept: National Informatics Centre and BPL Systems and Projects Limited, Bangalore (BPL) signed an agreement for transfer of technology of a PC-VCR controller card developed by NIC, on September 28, 1993. Under this agreement, BPL acquires the rights to manufacture and market the card.
The technology of the PC-VCR controller card was developed by NIC with the objective of bringing Multi Media (MM) technology within the reach of a large number of Users. The card provides the capability to integrate interactive video on personal computers. The commonly available VHS-VCR can be used as a video source for developing interactive video applications with the help of this card.
The software associated with this card can be used to program the video material from a normal video cassette under DOS and Windows environment. The software also enables the User to use all the video control functions of a VCR from a graphic-based user interface.
The product can be used in developing a wide range of multimedia applications in various areas such as corporate presentations, tourism, art, museums, education and training. The use of VCR as a video source provides the facility to use existing video material.
NIC is pursuing R&D activities in the multimedia field to develop cost-effective multimedia solutions. In addition NIC also undertakes multimedia applications development projects, on turnkey basis, for various Government sectors. NIC has put together a team of professionals in the areas of computer hardware and software, visual communication and product design to provide integrated multimedia solutions.
BPL is a reputed electronics company with a wide range of consumer and professional products. Signing the agreement Mr Chandrasekhar, Managing Director, BPL said that this merger of NIC's technical expertise in multimedia and BPL's strong marketing infrastructure in the field of electronics will provide the Indian User with the opportunity of taking advantage of the enormous potential of multimedia technology.
This agreement between NIC and BPL paves the way for manufacture of indigenous multimedia systems with Indian Technology.
