The UP Transport Computerisation Project (VAHAN) got a boost when the Hon’ble Minister of Transport, Uttar Pradesh, Sh. Reoti Raman Singh, inaugurated the Computerised Counters at RTO Office, Varanasi on 18th January 2004 and released a project brochure to mark the occasion. It is a state-of-art solution developed by NIC, under a secured environment using the latest ICT tools to facilitate single window delivery of e-services like vehicle registration, its fitness, enforcement, tax collection and permit etc. ‘Vahan’ also has inbuilt intelligence on Government rules and procedures on tax calculation, i.e the number of seats in a bus, laden weight for trucks, private or commercial vehicle etc. The data entered at the counter is verified, tax due is calculated in a flash, you pay the tax and walk away with the receipt.
