With the increased proliferation of Internet & its availability through a number of service centres being set up all across the country, government websites are becoming the first point of interaction between the government & its citizens. Large number of websites has also been established in the recent years by various government ministries, departments as wells state & district administrations. Being the first point of contact, it is important that these websites establish the comprehensive presence of the departments in cyberspace. To facilitate government departments in establishing a citizen centric, up-do-date & universally accessible web sites, government has released guidelines for design, development & maintenance of the websites. Our lead story in this issue provides an executive summary of these guidelines along with salient features. Websites developed in compliance with these guidelines can also avail a Quality Certification from STQC. Cabinet Secretary has recently launched an Executive Video Conferencing System (EVCS) over NICNET. It is being presently used by large number of libraries in government department & educational institutions.
