New Delhi: The National Informatics Centre has taken up the responsibility of setting up a 'Forest Network' for the Indian Council of Forest Research and Education (ICFRE).

To facilitate the exchange of information pertaining to forest research, all major forest institutes under ICFRE will be interconnected through NICNET.

The project also envisages the establishment of a centralized Forest Library Database on the network so that it can be provided to all research institutes and agencies both in India and abroad.

NICNET services were demonstrated to Mr Kamal Nath, Minister of State for Environment and Forest and Mr Tim Wirth, US Under Secretary at the inaugural function of the National Forest Library Information Centre, organized by the World Health Organization on April 10, 1995 at Dehradun.
