The spectacular growth of the electronics industry of the Country in the past few years necessitated the development of a reliable and comprehensive information system for easy and fast access to the voluminous information on production and export of electronic items. In response to this, the National Informatics Centre has designed and developed the Electronics Industry Information System (EIIS) Rel 1.0 in co-ordination with the Data Bank and Information Division (DBID) of the Department of Electronics (DOE). EIIS is a user-friendly search and retrieval software package which will help in the analysis of the vast amount of electronics data as well as to study the growth and current trends of the electronics industry. The source of data for the system is the "LIPS" integrated database which is maintained and regularly updated by the DBID on the NEC S-1000/20D mainframe computer system in the NIC Headquarters at Delhi. EIIS Rel 1.0 with data for the period of 1981-90, has been made available to Users since June 1991. The database will be updated every year. The Electronics Industry Information System package is being distributed as a twin floppy set with a User's Guide and product classification.
