Karnataka was the first State in the country to make its mark in Total Budget Computerisation way back as 1991, and now yet another milestone has been achieved in Feb’ 2004, with the presentation of the Budget Document under the new environment of Oracle 9i database on Linux 9.0 with Developer 6i front-end.

Budget Information System (BIS), developed by NIC, embraces all the functions of the Annual State Budget, starting from entry of accounts figures, received from AG’s office to the Final documents – Annual Financial Statement, Assets and Liabilities and Budget At A Glance which are presented on the floor of the Assembly. Accurate, aesthetic, slim, bi-lingual (English, Kannada) budget documents are generated through BIS, the modules being integrated into a single menu providing necessary security. District, Department and scheme wise data for plan and non-plan schemes culminate in the Plan and the District (Zilla Panchayath Link) documents. BIS has been well-appreciated by the Finance department as the time involved in the processing and generation of the documents has been reduced drastically and it is very user-friendly.
