Delhi : Video Conferencing is one of the popular and highly used services provided by NIC to its user organizations. A one day technical workshop to provide hands on training on working with VC systems and to discuss “Emerging Video Conferencing Trends & Its Applications” was recently organized at NIC Headquarters. The discussion was followed by a live demonstration of Video Conferencing services & hands on session on different videoconferencing systems being provided by NIC. Also some important video conferencing sessions were held recently where NIC provided the service. They include the following :

Inauguration of TECHSAT : NIC provided the video conferencing services for the inauguration of “ Techsat “ Project in Gujarat on May 11, 2001 celebrated as the ‘Technology Day’. Inauguration was done by Shri Keshubhai Patel, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat and Shri Bachi Singh Rawat, Hon’ble Minister of State for Science & Technology, Govt. of India. Shri Bachi Singh Rawat participated in the inaugural function at Gujarat through video conferencing from NIC Headquarters.

Telemedicine : A Conference titled “International Symposium & Workshop on Changing Face of Cardiac Surgery“, organized by Safdurjung Hospital was recently held at India Habitat Center. During this conference Five Heart operations were shown live through Video Conferencing from Safdurjang Hospital, New Delhi to a group of around 100 doctors representing various parts of the country as well as abroad. NIC provided the network connectivity for the event using NICNET’s high speed satellite network, Portable VSAT and VC Equipment. The conference was conducted at a very high speed of 768 Kbps for better video clarity. All the delegates appreciated the minute details of the operation and were able to interact with the doctor conducting the operation too.

Video Conferencing Facility at Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Pondicherry Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Pondicherry became the latest in the list of Union Territories to have NIC’s Video Conferencing facility. At a special function held recently at Port Blair, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands inaugurated the VC Facility in the Island. The function was attended by DG (NIC) from New Delhi through Video Conferencing. The Lt Governor praised NIC for its efforts and support towards providing this facility. With this, the total number of VC studios set up by NIC has gone upto 28 which are located in various parts of the Country. This is one of the largest VC networks of its kind in India.
