Jalandhar: The Punjab State Unit of the National Informatics Centre conducted a workshop on DISNIC Applications and Success Stories, at Jalandhar on December 5, 1994. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr SK Kakar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar; and chaired by Ms Vini Mahajan, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Jalandhar.
The workshop primarily aimed at promoting close coordination between NIC and the District Administration by familiarizing the participants with the latest developments in the field of Information Technology, and the methods of access to this technology.
Specific objectives of the workshop included:
- Development of necessary information database at the district level for planning and decision making.
- Promotion of informatics culture at the district level, by organizing training programmes.
- Promotion of GIS techniques for planning.
